The ascendency of India as an economic world power

One of the most important education problems in India is lack of enough world-class universities. Almost two-thirds of universities and 90 percent of colleges are rated under the standard level. Manmohan Singh the Prime minister targeted this problem in his lecture at the 150^th anniversary of University of Mumbai.

He announced that the new plan of Indian government is to establish 30 new universities with world-class standard and facilitied.

India Edu News reported:

"This expansion is going to be a landmark in expanding access to high-quality education across the country. These universities should focus on international standards of excellence and be rated among the top institutions in the world," the prime minister said.

"They must become the launching pads for our entry into the knowledge economy," Manmohan Singh told a function here to celebrate 150 years of the University of Mumbai.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development, the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the Planning Commission have already begun work on setting them up.

"They are working to operationalise this in the next two-three months."

At present, there are 18 central universities, like Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University in etc.

According to Manmohan Singh the Prime minister, for reaching this goal, all the related organizations should try to improve the quality of education in India.

Naturally, for reaching this goal, they all should try to arrange better professional and skilled teachers, more flexible, systematic and developed curriculum, better and more advanced learning methods. Of course arranging all of them takes lots of effort and money.
