Indian Cricket League matches in Eden Gardens

Eden Gardens is the best stadium for cricket in India and I guess that it is the largest too. Eden Gardens is under the authority of West Bengal government and now ICL organizers would be happy to know that West Bengal government would allow them to arrange matches in Eden Gardens. This is surely great news for Indian Cricket League organizers. At the same time, this news would frustrate BCCI officials.

Cricinfo wrote:

The Indian Cricket League (ICL) has received support from an unexpected quarter with West Bengal sports minister Subhash Chakraborty saying the ICL would be allowed to use the Eden Gardens and other grounds in the state.

"Whatever facilities we have, we will make available to the boys who have been punished, particularly by the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB)," Chakraborty told NDTV, an Indian television channel. "I have no objection. All the fields will be available for them as all the fields are available for CAB. The owner of the fields is the state government not any other body. The Eden Gardens was looked after by CAB. Now the lease period is over and it is state government's property. If Kapil and others like to play in Eden Gardens, I would allow it. What is the harm in it?"

So, ICL organizers are getting the largest cricket stadium in India. If they can ensure some star cricketers then they would have thousands of people coming to the stadium. It would surely make ICL more popular in India.

yes, west bengal is best place for cricket. Although some days ago egen garder was banded for internationl cricket for the bad behave of the fans. now west bengal outhoritiy's support will carry on the ICL's mentality

Just stopping by to thank you for covering this event, Razib!

It is not a question of ICL's popularity; it's rather it's acceptance. I think that players like ganguly, Sachin should come forward without any fear and promote ICL. Afterall these players have given their so many years to cricket and not it's time to show how they are dedicated and devoted to it and how much they love and care about it.

obviously it is a good news for ICL. And i think ICL will be inspired to continue their fight against BCCI.
