The ascendency of India as an economic world power

Sources of fossil fuels around the world are limited. The time will come when the amount of global fossil fuels will no longer exists. So, we have to seek environment friendly sources of energy. Wind power is one of the non-renewable sources available in the world. Recently, Indian government has decided to increase the capacity of wind power generation in order to meet the increased demand of electrcity. Currently India is generating 7,230 MW of electricity from wind power. Thus, the wind power is contributing 7.5 percent of total electricity generation in India.

In order to promote capacity addition in wind energy, the government has introduced various fiscal incentives, including 80 per cent accelerated depreciation, tax holidays for power generation projects, soft loans, customs and excise duty exemption as well as liberalised foreign investment clearance procedures.

It is a good initiative taken by India to increase the wind power capacity to meet the domestic need. India is a country with huge population. So, electricity demand will increase gradually and that is why, government should think of increasing the capacity of resources like wind power.
