Indian Cricket League (ICL): Umpires and Referees

ICL authority has recently announced the names of four umpires and two match referees for the inaugural competition of Indian cricket league starting from 30 November. ICL is going to organize the first private league based on Twenty20 format in the cricket world. Well, you already know that BCCI has not given its approval to ICL. Rather BCCI has not left any stone unturned to make ICL unsuccessful.

ICL named two former Indian cricketers- Ajit Wadekar and Erapalli Prasanna- as the match referees of ICL Twenty20 competition. Ajit Wadekar also captained India in international matches.

Cricinfo reported:

Wadekar, 66, was captain during India's historic wins against the West Indies and England in the early '70s. He played 37 Tests matches, scoring 2113 runs at 31.07 and 15380 runs at the first-class level at 47.03. After his retirement, Wadekar was the manager of the Indian team on many occasions in the'90s.

Erapalli Prasanna also played for over a decade for India. Most probably this is the first time both Ajit Wadekar and Erapalli Prasanna will appear as match referee in ICL. Besides match referees, ICL also named four umpires who will be seen in the first season of ICL. Four umpires are Raymond Julian, Jeffrey Evans, Trevor Jesty and Dean Johnson. All of them have umpiring experience in first class or list A match.

Raymond Julian umpired over 500 first class matches before he took retirement from umpiring six years ago. Trevor Jesty and Jeffrey Evans are still in umpiring job in county cricket. With 99 matches to his credit, Jeffrey Evans wants to experience umpiring in a major competition like ICL. Trevor Jesty has 180 first class-match experiences in country cricket. So, there is no shortage of experience.

Kapil Deb, the chairman of ICL, is happy with the umpire panels indicating their experience in umpiring.

The Hindu reported:

"Our umpires and referees have rich experience of the game and an eye for precision too. We are happy to have them with us", he said.

So, it seems that ICL authority is trying their best to make their inaugural competition a success. They have some star former cricketers across the world. Now, they have some experienced umpires and match officials. Now, let us see if ICL can make a good impression among the cricket fans with its first Twenty20 competition.

i guess ICL will do much better than BCCI. I don't no what problem does BCCI have with ICL. When ICL is trying to make the young cricketers ready for international game then what is bothering BCCI. Infact they should be happy. In the end its cricket. When the players all round the world are happy with it then why is BCCI creating a problem. I think ICL will do a very good job.

BCCI has not given its approval to ICL and they also don't left any chance to make ICL unsuccessful. I think it is not a good for ICL. However, this rebel cricket league has got lot of responsibilities form all class people. Being every national board's forbiden to join in ICL they have got many international players. And today i know that they have got four umpires and two referee. that's nice.
