The ascendency of India as an economic world power

The gold price in global market has seen substantial increase over the last few months. With such high rate of gold price, the local gold scavengers in India are now in real problem. People are now less interested to gold and people involved in gold scavenging are struggling for their survival. Their monthly income has come down with the consistent increase in international market. So, the gold scavengers are now on the verge of getting out of this traditional profession.

World gold prices, at above $830 an ounce, have risen 12 percent in the past month alone and are up more than 30 percent this year.

"Business is at its worst. People like us are on our way out as silver and pearl jewellery are now more in demand," said Omar, his voice choked with emotion.

"There is less work at factories and less gold dust available."

Earlier, a gold scavenger could earn about $3 per day which has come down to mere $1 today. So, here lies a clear indication of the poor condition of these people. As a profession, gold scavenging has some heath ailments too. Collecting and purifying the gold dust require a process which causes health problems.

So, I think, Indian government should come forward to help the gold scavengers. If this condition continues then the day will come there will be hardly any gold scavenger in India.
