The ascendency of India as an economic world power

I don’t know why people in South Asia have suddenly become big fan of onions. Pakistan recently suffered from shortage of onion and now Sri Lanka is looking for onions. Sri Lanka has already imported some onions from China but the distance between these two countries has made Chinese onion unattractive for Sri Lankan consumers. So, Sri Lanka is looking for Indian onion.

Times of India wrote:

Welcoming India's decision to ease onion exports, Sri Lankan importers on Saturday said they will buy 30,000 tons of the bulb from it to augment supplies in the domestic market.

"Our agents are already waiting at the Tuticorin and Chennai ports in India for buying the onion on hopes of lifting of restrictions and we will import 30,000 tons of onion by December," Essential Commodities Importers Association spokesman said.

Sometimes, I feel that South Asian countries should try to support each other more in the field of agriculture. On the one hand, many farmers don’t get fair price for their products while many consumers have to pay a huge amount of money for onions.
