The ascendency of India as an economic world power

Virender Sehwag did not have a good time in 2007. He was criticized a lot for his poor performance and was out of the national time for sometime in this year. It seems that another opportunity is going to come to him to change his fortune in 2008. He is now in Australian tour with the Indian team. India lost the first test against Australia by 337 runs at MCG. Now, Indian team management are trying to find a good strategy to face Australia in the second test. Steve Waugh thinks that Virender Sehwag should be picked for the test as an opener.

Rahul Dravid's [Images] poor show in Melbourne notwithstanding, India should open with the right-hander and send Virender Sehwag [Images] as his partner in the second Test, suggested former Australia captain Steve Waugh.

Waugh said Dravid should not be written off after just two failures and he would prove a perfect foil for Sehwag who could play his natural aggressive game.

I do not agree with Steve Waugh at all in this regard. Virender Sehwag is a hard hitter and he often gets out very early. This is perhaps the last thing that India needs. Nevertheless, cricket is a game of uncertainly and anything can happen at anytime.
