The ascendency of India as an economic world power

India has perhaps the largest number of tigers in the world. 100 years ago, India had more than 40,000 tigers and now India does not have perhaps even more than 4,000 tigers. Indian tiger is beautiful and Chinese people are fan of Indian tigers. So, there is thriving industry for tigers.

Recently, 16 people were arrested by Uttar Pradesh police while trading in tiger skin and body parts. According to police, 12 hunters came to meet four smugglers to deliver the tiger skins and body parts. Earlier this year, a census conducted by Wildlife Institute of India showed a drastic fall in the number of tigers last five years. The census created huge criticism from the wildlife experts around the world.

BBC reported:

Senior Uttar Pradesh police official Amitabh Yash said that the police had seized four tiger skins, and 100kg of animal bone and hair from the 16 men arrested on Tuesday evening.

He said a gang of 12 hunters, including 10 women, had come to Allahabad to deliver the tiger parts to four smugglers.

I think, it is an important issue to focus on and Indian government should take some effective initiative to stop tiger poaching. In fact, these tigers are national wealth and it is the responsibility of Indian government to look after the tigers.
