500 children died of a mysterious strain of encephalitis that has plagued Northern India this year. The news of this disease first came from Uttar Pradesh state. The situation is getting acute day by day in this populous northern region. The disease is spreading out quickly in adjacent localities. Health Minister of the state, Anant Kumar Mishra said that doctors and scientists were asked to identify the disease. Encephalitis is a mosquito-borne disease.

AP reported:

Doctors in Uttar Pradesh state, the center of the outbreak, have been unable to identify the strain of the disease, which has affected only children, killing 484 of them since the beginning of the year, said state Health Minister Anant Kumar Mishra.

And the outbreak is spreading quickly, doctors said.

"There has been a sudden spurt in encephalitis cases over the last month. Over 100 children have died and encephalitis cases are pouring in from eastern parts of the state," said Dr. Akhilesh Srivastava, a senior government doctor.

 Most of the people of this region are poor. Very few people have access to proper health care. Moreover, people are less conscious about medical health. They take their children to the nearest hospitals at the last moment when it becomes difficult for the doctors to save the children.
