Australia vs India 2nd Test: The Day of Andrew Symonds and Brad Hogg

Well, I do not want to claim myself to be an expert on cricket but I feel that India cannot win the second test against Australia. You may wonder why I am giving this kind of prediction only after the first day of the match. At the end of the day, Australian score is 376/7. So, I am expecting that Australia will cross 400 and Indian batsmen will be in the back foot from the start of their first innings. At one stage, Australia was 134/6 and Indian fans hoped that the time had come for them to have some smile at last in the Test series.

Andrew Symonds and Brad Hogg had other things in their mind and they played their natural game and the rest is really history.

Cricinfo wrote:

But the smiles were wiped firmly off the faces of the Indians by Symonds and Hogg, who refused to be cowed down by the scoreboard and instead launched a buccaneering counter-attack. Hogg was the surprise package and, three first-class hundreds notwithstanding, his honest hitting through and over the infield left India's bowlers a bit dazed.

If the Indians think the rub of the green did not go their way they would not be far off, with swirling catches eluding flat-footed fielders and thick edges escaping the hearing of the umpires as a strong Wednesday crowd got behind Symonds and Hogg and cheered the revival.

Symonds was confident all along, but as the only recognised batsmen had to buckle down and not play the big shots that he so likes. Hogg had no such obligations and repeatedly went after the bowlers, easily outscoring Symonds for a time. The tea break came and went, and the two brought up the 100 of the seventh-wicket partnership in good time, using up only 115 balls to do so.

So, you see that Andrew Symonds and Hogg were never in pressure. This is something that Indian batsmen should try to learn. Well, they don’t have the professional mentality of Australian players. BCCI should think of this matter seriously instead of trying to create all the obstacles for Indian Cricket League (ICL).

No doubt, India started well. And they could stop Australia in the first day. But you have to admit that because of bad umpiring Australia could manage huge runs against India at sydney. So, I hope if Australia win the series then they have no way to celebrate as it is similar to defeat.
