Tata Nano and Increasing Demand of Oil in India

One week ago, Tata Nano created a huge media buzz not only just in India but in the whole world. Tata Nano is the cheapest car in the world and it is indeed like a dream machine for millions of people living in the third world countries. The car is coming in to the market within a few months. Tata Nano is going to come in the market at a time when the demand for oil is only increasing in India.

Economic Times wrote:

Oil demand in India, Asia's third-biggest crude consumer, will rise more than 3.5 per cent this year, the International Energy Agency said, lifting its outlook on increased use of transportation fuels.

Consumption in 2008 will increase to 2.9 million barrels a day from an expected 2.8 million barrels in 2007 as oil-product sales in India rose 5.7 per cent in November, the agency said in its monthly report published today.

Tata officials have convinced everyone that they can do amazing things in the auto sector. Now, I really wish that they dedicate some of their time and resources to develop such cars that would need less fuel and would help to address the energy crisis of India.
