India was the land of tigers. India still has some tigers but the population is decreasing very rapidly. In fact, according to one report, India has just 1,411 tigers at present. So, you can easily see that Indian tiger is really on the verge of extinction unless something substantial is done by Indian government. 100 years ago, India had nearly 40,000 tigers.

Now, Indian government has taken a project of $153 million to Create 8 New Tiger Sanctuaries. It is a very good initiative but I am not very optimistic about its success. There must be a very strong political will from the ministers to save tigers in India. Otherwise, even a $153 billion budget will not bring anything.
