The ascendency of India as an economic world power

India is the land of outsourcing but the reality is that most families in India still do not own a personal computer (PC). This scenario is gradually changing as more and more Indians can afford to buy PCs thanks to the continuous economic growth. 2007 saw an impressive growth in the sale of PCs in India.

Times of India wrote:

India personal computer (PC) shipments crossed 6.5 million in 2007, registering a growth of 20% year-on-year, according to data by research firm IDC India. Notebook PCs or laptops clocked a rapid growth to account for over one-fourth of the PC market.

“In CY2007, notebook PC shipments accounted for over a fourth of the total client PC shipments. This healthy trend points to the maturing of the Indian IT market and a shift to a new phase of growth–Growth Phase 2.0,” said IDC India country manager Kapil Dev Singh.

You don’t have to be a scholar to understand that things will get even better in 2008. I am just concerned about one thing. The growth in PC sale is mainly happening in the urban areas. In the rural areas, most people still do not have any idea about computers. This should change.
