The ascendency of India as an economic world power

Internet is a great blessing in modern economy. India has been hugely benefited with the rise of Internet. Cheaper and faster Internet service has contributed immensely behind the growth of outsourcing industry in the country. Internet service in India and a number of countries in South Asia and Middle East got seriously disrupted in the last few days when undersea submarine cable got cut in Egypt. Things are becoming a bit better for Indian consumers.

The disruptions cost India half its bandwidth, leaving the country's lucrative outsourcing industry struggling with Internet slowdowns and outages.

The situation improved Friday as international bandwidth providers shifted their Internet traffic to the Pacific route, significantly upgrading India's Web access, said Rajesh Chharia, president of India's Internet Service Provider's Association. He said the country's Internet connectivity would be at roughly 80 percent by the end of Friday.

The use of submarine cable has decreased the expense of bandwidth immensely in India. The only good thing is that the IT industry did not suffer that much until now from the disruption in Internet service.
