The ascendency of India as an economic world power

India may be the land of outsourcing but the reality is that most people in India still do not have a PC. There is a huge room for growth for computers in this market. Dell wants to get the best out of this and is going to sell inexpensive models of computers from April 2008.

Times of India wrote:

The Round Rock, Texas-based company will market the cheaper PCs from the middle of next month, Rajan Anandan, vice president of Dell India, told reporters in New Delhi on Monday. He didn't provide a price or other details.

"Higher wages in India, where salaries are set to rise at the fastest pace in the world this year, may help Dell boost sales as computers become affordable to more consumers. Dell's revenue from India may climb to almost $1 billion in the year ending February," Steve Felice, Asia president, said last month.

This is a very smart move from Dell. Well, I could not find any information about the price. Dell bosses are expecting $1 billion revenue from India in 2008 and this does not look impossible. Other companies should follow Dell and introduce inexpensive models of PC. This will help everyone.
