You know that Eden Gardens is the largest cricket stadium in India. West Bengal Sports Minister Subhas Chakraborty recently said that ICL would be given the permission for using Eden Gardens if ICL authority approached to his government. Mr. Chakraborty was speaking at the re-launch ceremony of ICL’s Kolkata Tigers club following actor Mithun Chakraborty formally took over the ownership of Kolkata Tigers. The club has been re-named as Royal Bengal Tigers. Besides assuring Eden Gardens for ICL matches, minister Subhas Chakraborty also criticized the activities of BCCI.

“I have just ordered the additional chief secretary to give a formal permission to the IPL to hold the matches. Similarly, if the ICL approaches us, we see no reason for not allowing them to hold matches at Eden Gardens,” he said.

“Any new step needs some brainstorming and something good emerges out of it. It is not a controversy between IPL and ICL or a debate or dispute. The BCCI has misunderstood the efforts taken up by ICL. So they gave instruction to their players and bodies in such a manner as if all have to become their stooges in order to maintain their cricketing life,” he said.

“We have some 30 stadiums in the state from Siliguri to Contai. We will convert any one of the stadiums ICL wants into a cricket ground and make it their permanent practice venue. They are welcome in the state,” he said.

When Indian Cricket League (ICL) was formally launched last year, ICL authority was facing some problems to find out a stadium for the tournament. At last, ICL could manage to get the Tau Devi Lal stadium, Panchkula. Now, ICL would definitely take this assurance as a huge boost in the build up of the tournament.
