The ascendency of India as an economic world power

Indian people may be are crazy for cricket but the reality is that India had its best achievements in the sports of Hockey. In the past, Indian team won many gold medals in Olympics. Well, things have not gone well at all for Indian hockey in the last few years. Recently, Indian national hockey team even failed to qualify for Olympics.

India is expected to host 2010 World Cup Hockey tournament. Now, International Hockey Federation (FIH) president t Els van Breda Vriesman has warned that India might lose the right to host World Cup 2010 unless the country does some changes in the way hockey is managed in the country.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH), worried at India's falling standards, devised a "Promoting Indian Hockey" project last year to raise standards in the country's national sport.

FIH president Els van Breda Vriesman warned Indian officials they could miss hosting the 2010 World Cup in New Delhi if the project was not implemented immediately.

"It has been made clear that the staging of the 2010 World Cup is related to the success of the project and the world body is still waiting for signs that things are really going to happen in India," Vriesman said in a statement.

This is bad news for Indian hockey. I just hope that Indian hockey officials take this warning seriously.
