India has the second largest population in the world after China. So, it is not unnatural that India has emerged as the second largest mobile phone market in the world. Well, you have to remember one thing that most people in India are not wealthy. In fact, most people are living in the rural areas and many of them do not have any mobile phone.

India has become second largest wireless network in the world after China by overtaking the US.
The total wireless subscribers (includes GSM, CDMA and WLL) base stood at 261.09 million at the end of March 2008. A total of 10.16 million wireless subscribers have been added in March against 8.53 million in February 2008, according to the telecom regulator.
It is official now that Indian has surpassed USA and become the second largest mobile phone market in the world after China. There is still a lot of room for growth in Indian mobile phone market. So, you can expect that the mobile phone market in India will continue to grow for a considerable amount of time in future.
