It is often said that Indian people are crazy for just two things: Bollywood movies and Cricket. Football may be the most popular game in the world but in India, it is cricket and only cricket. The people of West Bengal were traditionally fan of football but it has changed a lot with the success of Sourav Ganguly. Sourav Ganguly is form Kolkata and he is the most successful captain ever of Indian cricket team. So, you may wonder whether Bayern Munich can get any success in selling football in India.

Well, it seems that officials of Bayern Munich have done their home work very well. It was the final match for Oliver Kahn and it took place at the Salt Lake Stadium Kolkata. Bayern Munich played a friendly match with Mohan Bagan- one of the top two giants of Kolkata football (the other is East Bengal).
Can you make a guess about the number of spectators who turned out for watching the match? Nearly 120,000 spectators came for the match. Bayern Munich are hopeful that they can build a fan base in India and can sell a lot of merchandise. I wonder why top European clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona, AC Milan and Arsenal are still waiting while Bayern Munich scored a deceive victory today in Indian market.

Football lost its popularity for the lack of proper management and promotion. I am not sure whether bringing in famous European clubs to India would change the scenario.
