Steel is important for any country. India is traditionally strong in producing steel and India even exports it. Well, this scenario is changing significantly. Indian economy is growing rapidly and it needs a lot of steel. So, India needs to import a lot of steel and India is turning into a net steel importing country.
Business Standard wrote:
Steel Secretary R S Pandey said that exports in 2007-08 were at 5 million tonnes, while imports stood at 7 million tonnes. "Exports have declined 6 per cent whereas imports have increased 46 per cent," he said.
Pandey pointed out that till 2006-07, India was a net exporter of steel. "In two-three years, the situation will worsen," he said while addressing the blow-in ceremony of Tata Steel's ‘H' blast furnace, the largest in India, which would take its capacity to 7 million tonnes from a current level of 5 million tonnes.
The demand for steel in India is growing much faster than the growth in production. This may increase the price of this commodity too. Indian government should focus more about this matter.

Steel keeps important role to change our civilization in every era. So, we can not avoid the need of steel in our everyday life. India is well-known for exporting steel. Because of grwoing economy rapidly, india is now going to import lot of steel from steel import country. I think Indian government should think deeply about the increasing of stell than any other countries
