After the end of the second day of ongoing Sri Lanka vs India first test, host Sri Lanka is now in driving seat. At the stumps of the second day, Sri Lanka put on 422 runs losing 4 wickets. Thanks to three centuries from opener Malinda Warnapura, Captain Mahela Jayawardene and middle order batsman Thilan Samaraweera, Sri Lanka has pushed India all the way in the second day.
Starting with previous day’s score of 85 for 2, host Sri Lanka dominated throughout the day over India. Jayawardene and Warnapura contributed 155 runs in the third wicket partnership that broke down when Harbhajan Singh made Warnapura the catch of Rahul Dravid for 115 off 202 balls. However, the break through did not bring any change in Sri Lanka’s domination as Jayawardene and Samaraweera came up with a 148-run fourth wicket partnership, cementing the hope of local crowd.
Sri Lankan captain Jayawardene scored a brilliant century before getting out for 136 runs. It has been his 9th century at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo- thus equaling Don Bradman’s record nine centuries at Melbourne Cricket Ground. The last man India suffered by was Samaraweera who remained not out at 111. Dilshan was not out at 20 and will start Sri Lanka’s innings along with Samaraweera tomorrow. India could capture two wickets during the tiring day with Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma taking a wicket each.
