The ascendency of India as an economic world power

First test of Sri Lanka vs India test series started today. However, only 22 overs were played on the rain-interrupted opening day as the first two sessions were washed away due to rain. Coming on to the field in the third session, Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and elected to bat first. Initially, it was expected to play 42 overs, but the bad light forced the first day action to be restricted to 22 overs. Tomorrow, the second day will start 30 minutes early as part of the compensation of the first day.

There was heavy rain last night at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. Even drizzling continued during the day only to deteriorate the condition further. Naturally, outfield was not dry and fast, helping Indian side to some extent. At the end of the day, Sri Lanka could put on 85 runs losing 2 wickets with Malinda Warnapura batting on 50 and Captain Mahela Jayawardene not out on 16 runs. Now, let us hope for a sun shine day tomorrow.
