The ascendency of India as an economic world power

It is very hard to answer. With India requiring 242 runs more to avoid follow-on and Sri Lanka needing four more wickets to force India bat in the second innings, it is apparent that Sri Lanka has better chance in the match. I think, even a die-heart fan of India can not be optimistic that Indian team will be able to avoid follow-on at this moment.

VVS Laxman is batting on 19 and Captain Anil Kumble is batting on 1. If Indian fans have any hope, it is definitely around Laxman. Going back to 2000, Indian fans could find some hope remembering Laxman’s two match winning innings at the Eden Gardens in the second test against visiting Australia. India was forced to follow-on in the match, but Laxman’s heroic batting, and Harbhajan Singh’s excellent bowling pulled off a historic victory for India.

Indian cricket fans can only hope for a similar innings from Laxman once again. However, to be honest, I can not be that much optimistic this time around.
